Vucic reveals when direct flights between Belgrade and Abu Dhabi will be established
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said on Wednesday that he had extremely important talks with President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan about cooperation and all issues that are of great importance for our country, and announced that direct flights between Belgrade and Abu Dhabi will be launched by May.
"Extremely important talks for Serbia, we spoke about all spheres, about everything that is of great importance for Serbia, from the financial arrangements we have, the so-called rollover for individual loans. We talked about energy, about further improvement of the renewable energy system and our grid, their investments and securing our goals to have about 3.5 gigawatts of installed energy by 2030 or at the latest by 2032," Vucic told reporters after the meeting.
He added that "we should do everything possible in terms of new energy."
"Balanced, meaning to provide batteries or hydro potential for that. We talked, of course, about all other big projects from Belgrade Waterfront to various projects in the field of the military-technical agreements that we have. About the CEP agreement (Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between Serbia and the United Arab Emirates that came into force on June 1, 2025), which contributed a lot to 96 percent of goods and services being imported and exported under preferential terms from one country to the other," said Vucic.
He added that they also discussed the launching of direct Belgrade-Abu Dhabi flights.
"I believe that we will have a new Belgrade-Abu Dhabi line by May. And that will not be a low-cost company, it's Etihad, which is one of the best carriers in the world," said Vucic.
He added that he can always learn a lot from Bin Zayed, which was also the case on Wednesday.
"From one of the most powerful and important people in the world, regarding the geopolitical situation," Vucic stressed.
The president said that he had the special honor to be hosted in the new national museum that was recently opened, where so far the sheikh has hosted only President of France Emmanuel Macron.
"We also had lunch there, so it was a great honor for Serbia, a great privilege. These are not easy times in the world today, but with a friend, and he is a sincere friend of Serbia, it's easier to understand the situation and at the same time it's easier to overcome those problems and difficulties. I believe that we had good discussions about various issues, important discussions and I will participate in the panels, but we have already done what was most important for our country. This is a matter of representing the country, and it was of essential importance for Serbia," concluded Vucic.
