President of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabic said on Monday, after a meeting with President of the National Assembly of Tanzania Mussa Zungu, that there is huge potential for cooperation with African countries, including Tanzania, which, she pointed out, is an important factor of stability in East Africa, adding that Serbia will soon open an embassy in that country.

Brnabic said she was satisfied that Zungu responded to her invitation to visit Serbia and added that during the three-day visit he will have a number of important meetings, including with the president of the Republic, the prime minister of Serbia, the minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as with representatives of the Foreign Affairs Committee and other committees of the Serbian National Assembly.

"Thanks to that, we will be able to use this historic visit as a turning point in the further development of our bilateral relations," Brnabic said.

She added that Zungu's visit to Serbia comes in the year marking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Tanzania and pointed out that Serbia, apart from bilateral relations, attaches great importance to the development and revitalization of relations with all African countries, with which it has ties from the time of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).

"President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic is planning an important visit to the African continent. We believe that there is huge potential for cooperation between Serbia and African countries, and Tanzania is a country that is an important factor of stability in East Africa and an active actor in the United Nations, as well as within the African Union and the East African Community. So the cooperation that we are re-establishing and strengthening is the path that we are taking today through parliamentary cooperation, but which will expand through it. That cooperation is not only important for our bilateral relations, but also for the overall relations with the East African Community," Brnabic said, adding that it has been agreed to set up parliamentary friendship groups.

She also said that the Government of Serbia has completed the formal procedure and that Serbia will open an embassy in Tanzania, which will restore the level of cooperation to what it was in the past.

"The formal procedure has been completed, and the Government of Tanzania has granted agreement for the Serbian ambassador," said Brnabic.

She thanked Tanzania for confirming participation in EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and pointed out that this shows another reason why EXPO is important, as it will not only present all of Serbia's potential, but will also be an opportunity to promote the country to all our partners, as well as to promote friendly countries such as Tanzania in Belgrade.

"Thank you for the extended hand of friendship. I believe that this will prove to be a historic visit and a turning point in the further development of our overall bilateral relations," Brnabic stressed in conversation with Zungu.
