Good news: Treatment by gamma knife starts in August!

Gamma knife, golden standard quality in radiochirurgie, is now available in Serbia. Ministry of Health signed the contract with the manufacturer, and first gamma knife interventions on patients that are unable to have surgery should be completed in August.

Professor of neurochirurgie at The Serbian Clinical Center, Danica Grujicic, said for Radio Television of Serbia that, as the contract stated, gamma knife should become operational within the next six months, which would mean that the first patients could be taken in for treatment during the month of August.

The news that bring me the most joy is that we are going to be able to treat the heaviest oncology cases that suffered brain metastatic, who never fulfilled one specific National Insurance Fund's condition and that is the control of their primary illness-noted professor Grujicic.

It is extremely important  that we keep the healthy part of brain safe during gamma knife radiation, which means that we are specifically targeting the tissue affected by the tumor- Radio Television of Serbia reports.

In the period from 2008 to 2015, Serbian citizens had to go to Turkey in order to be treated by the gamma knife.
