Veselin Jevrosimovic, the owner of Comtrade, wrote this week in his column in the daily newspaper the "Informer" about the so-called smart materials, and the benefits that they bring to all people.

Here's what it's actually about.

"It is expected that in the upcoming period, technology could significantly progress in the field of production and application of new and so-called "smart" materials. If we are able to improve the building blocks and semi-finishes, it will automatically mean a huge step forward in all other branches, in a similar way that the discovery of steel and other alloys helped the industrial revolution.

VESELIN JEVROSIMOVIC: The smallest computer in the world is smaller than a grain of rice!

New materials could provide constructive solutions of the kind we have until recently could only dreamed of. I already wrote about graphene, an incredibly resilient and low carbon structure whose thickness measured nanometers, a hundred times stronger than steel, and has other amazing features like superior conductivity of heat and electricity.

There are many innovators and researchers who deal with less revolutionary, but equally applicable and useful applications of advanced materials. Good examples are the recently published results of a Korean university. Specifically, they were able to produce cloth that is efficient in generating static electricity. This is the same effect that we as children produced by rubbing an inflated balloon and other objects on our hair, and were able to dissipate static electricity as a current burning sensation when touching metal surfaces.

If we were to produce a piece of clothing from this cloth, such as a jacket, then we could create enough electricity to power the battery on our mobile phones and other devices solely by the energy accumulated through our daily movements. With a little imagination and ingenuity, it is easy to imagine all the advantages of such a solution - from ensuring the autonomy of electronic appliances, to saving energy and having a positive impact on the environment".
