The City of Belgrade decided to change the tariff system for the public transport on the proposal of the municipal committee of SNS from Obrenovac, Lazarevac, Mladenovac, Grocka, Sopot and Barajevo.

They sent a request to the City with the signatures of citizens from suburban municipalities who complained of high cost public transport, the city managers Goran Vesic said today.

According to him, the city representatives when considering that initiative found out that citizens form suburban municipalities in Belgrade had been paying higher prices for public transport than the citizens who live in the Belgrade itself, said Vesić for RTV Pink.

He said that from 1 September this year to 1 January next year, the tariff systems for public transport will be changed for ITS 1 and ITS 2, that exist now and the city will be divided into four zones– red, yellow, green and blue.

Current ITS 1 will be divided into three zones, and the fourth zone will be current ITS 2.

– That will make possible for the public transport to be cheaper for the citizens in suburban municipalities, and we expect that the prices would be up to 30% cheaper. Citizens who live within the current ITS1 would be able to pay lower prices by using only one zone, or to use the public transport in a rational way depending on the zone they use.– said Vesic.

As he said, the city counted the number of passengers, therefore together with the new zones and new prices for the public transport, a number of routes would be changed.

As he said, there is a number of routes that are completely overloaded, and at the same time, there is a number of routes that are underused.

– Our new tariff systems would be fairer and better for all citizens of Belgrade. The prices will be cheaper, and they will be able to use the public transport in an easier way – said Vesic.

He said that new vehicles would be bought; because the City of Belgrade signed a contract with Ikarbus for 30 new busses, and they are expecting to sign one more contract for another 20 busses after the budget revision.

In July, there will be a tender for five electric busses.
