Local authorities in Babušnica municipality allow 400 Euro for a new marriage, and almost double for a new member of the family.

Rade Minić, assistant-mayor whose job is to take care of social side of life here, said for Novosti news agency that the goal of this action is to reduce the effects of white plague, but also to prevent people from leaving.

- We decided to invest around 3.7 million Euro for this year. All the people who decide to get married, with the condition that this is their first marriage and that they have spent at least 6 months living here, will get 400 Euro. For the first child, they will get 600 Euro, for the second 600, and for the third and the next - 800 Euro - said Minić, stating that the amount of money will go 50% up if the parents are unemployed.

There are many subsidies for pupils, students, and other residents of this area...

- Public transportation is free for all, and we pay one part of the ticket for the students who go to school in other cities. Our students get 50 Euro scholarship each month. Pupils who come to our place from other villages get 10 Euro each month - said Minić, who is especially proud of the fact that the municipality office pays for the in vitro fertilization.

This area is the least populous area in Serbia.

The number of residents goes down every year so there is a present danger that the people will stop living here.

Under the last list, there are 12.307 people living here, while in 2002 there were 15.700!

The only place with the worse trend is the municipality of Crna Trava, but that is a poor solace.
