Both Serbs and Croats wanted to play football, but then NATO blew it all!

Not many people remember this data on the night before the NATO aggression in 1999

This was the beginning of a horrible period for Serbia when everything stopped, even the sport and all the official games.

Including the one that had great popularity - because we waited for a long time to see it.

This game was the match between Croatia and Yugoslavia in the EURO qualifications.

Everyone expected the game at the "Marakana" stadium, but the match was postponed because NATO started dropping bombs on Serbia, just three days before the "match of the decade"

This is why the supporters of football were denied the spectacle.

In fact, they had to be patient for a couple of months, because the match was played in August and was finished with the final score 0:0.

During the match there was a power outage at the stadium.

We "dug out" the data about how our football representatives waited for the decision about the game in Belgrade, just a few days before the NATO invasion.

- We still have not received any decision. This could happen today afternoon, or evening hours. It is possible that they will decide tomorrow. It is crystal clear the UEFA authorities are  watching the political situation closely. We are in constant contact with them, and everything depends on the political negotiations - said the secretary Branko Bulatovic.

Croatian team never wanted to cancel their coming to Belgrade, they were ready to play against our team.

- The stand of all the Unions is that matches should be played. There are not many terms for the matches and this is the biggest problem. To organize such an event costs a lot, and we do not have reserve terms. One thing is definite: UEFA will not allow the match to be played on neutral grounds. We do not have time to organize the match somewhere else, so the match will be played in Belgrade either on Saturday, or it will be postponed - explained Bulatovic back then.

Branko Bulatovic was killed in an organized action 5 years later, in 2004.
