No invitation for the victors: Vucic not going to event in Poland dedicated to start of WW2?

President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic has not yet received an invitation from Poland to attend the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II on September 1, Belgrade newspaper Politika writes, citing information from the Presidency.

According to the Foreign Ministry, they received information from the Serbian embassy in Warsaw that the invitations were sent only to EU, NATO and Eastern Partnership members.

This has been confirmed by the Polish embassy in Belgrade.

When Politika's reporter asked whether any invitations were sent to officials from Belgrade, and why no one from Russia has been invited, Sokolowski replied, "Invitations were sent to the closest Polish partners from the EU, NATO and the Eastern Partnership countries."

This, Politika assesses, will be the second major event where Serbia will not be represented in accordance with its historic role and status of a victorious power.

The newspaper recalls that during the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the signing of WW1 armistice, on November 11 last year, France placed the president of Serbia on the sidelines, while seating Hashim Thaci right behind Vladimir Putin.

Moscow is now strongly criticizing Poland, because Russia's President Vladimir Putin has also not received an invitation to the event, which is expected to be attended by about 20 world leaders.
