Health Minister Locar: No room for panic, we're absolutely ready if coronavirus comes to Serbia

There is no room for panic because of coronavirus, Serbian Health Minister Zlatibor Loncar said today, adding it was realistic for the virus to appear in Serbia as well, but that the health system is absolutely ready, with all World Health Organization recommendations having been put in place.

After signing an agreement at the Palace of Serbia with Hans Kluge, the World Health Organization regional director for Europe, Loncar said that no cases of coronavirus have been reported in Serbia and announced that a separate section dealing with coronavirus would be set up on the Ministry of Health website.

He urged citizens to follow health-related information issued by Serbian officials, as well as information on the World Health Organization website.

Loncar said it was realistic for coronavirus to appear in Serbia as well, but also stressed that the health system is fully prepared if and when coronavirus does appear in our country.

His message is that more people die from seasonal flu than from coronavirus, and urged citizens to take common precaution measures such as hand hygiene, avoiding large gatherings, while spending time in nature and eating healthy.

Kluge, who after Belgrade travels to Italy where coronavirus has appeared, said that he was leaving Serbia with a peace of mind after he saw for himself that all recommended measures have been implemented in our country.

Loncar and Kluge addressed reporters after signing an agreement to continue cooperation between Serbia and the World Health Organization.
