Dr Kon: Decision will have to be made after the weekend, all contacts should be banned

Speaking about the number of new cases during a regular news conference, epidemiologist Predrag Kon said that we are doing well and that he is glad that the flattening of the curve showing the number of cases has been ongoing for days.

"We are good. As for the curve itself, it's fine, too. We are now in the fifth day where the flattening has been serious. We fear that the virus might enter some of the most sensitive parts, the collectives where the elderly are. But if it stays this way, the curve will slowly fall until it completely loses power. I think that professionals are in full agreement that contacts should be completely banned."

"We have to wait and look day by day, wait for the weekend and see what happens with the weekend numbers. After that, a decision will have to be made."

All epidemiologists support measures to completely ban contacts, said Dr. Predrag Kon, and noted that he exchanged views with nearly 20 epidemiologists.

By 3 pm on April 9, 2020, there had been a total of 2,867 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Republic of Serbia.

Since the previous report until 3 pm, samples from 1,586 people were tested, of which 201 were positive. 1,891 patients have been hospitalized.

There are a total of 127 patients on ventilators.

By 3 pm in the Republic of Serbia, a total of 12,347 persons who met the criteria for a case definition had been tested.

One male died in the last 24 hours, with 66 people dying in total since the start of the outbreak.

The average age of the deceased is 64.3.
