Court refuses 15,000 euro bail offered by defense and detains Bojan Jevtic, accused of espionage in Kosovo
The provisional institution's Basic Court in Pristina today ordered Bojan Jevtic from Berivojac, a municipality of Kosovska Kamenica in Kosovo and Metohija, to be detained for up to 30 days.
Jevtic was arrested yesterday on suspicion of committed the crime of "espionage".
His lawyer, Milos Nikolic, stated after the hearing that the defense asked for Jevtic to pay bail and be kept under house arrest.
"Bojan Jevtic is a member of the Kosovo police, he has been in the service since 2002. He is being investigated for the criminal offense of espionage. What is important, today we presented arguments in his favor, as far as the request for custody is concerned, it is that he will be available to the authorities until the end of the proceedings, that he will respond to the summons, and for this purpose we offered 15,000 euro bail," the lawyer said.
Before the court announced its decision, he also said that the defense believes that the measure of house arrest is adequate, because this is the beginning of a procedure that can last a long time, while that there is no need to order detention.
Nikolic stressed that Bojan Jevtic is not a high-ranking police officer, as previously reported.
Jevtic's brother Ljubisa told the press that Bojan has been unjustly detained.
"He did his job properly, he is the father of three minor children whom he supports with that salary. He has been working for the Kosovo police for 23 years and has had no stain on his character. I believe that the proceedings against him will be dropped and that he will be acquitted," said Ljubisa Jevtic.
Members of the so-called Kosovo police yesterday arrested Bojan Jevtic at the Bela Zemlja administrative crossing, for alleged espionage.
