Members of the Crisis HQ for the fight against coronavirus, in a slightly changed composition, will meet exactly at noon today at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade. They will hold an emergency session, given the worsening epidemiological situation, where we have more than 2,000 newly diagnosed cases of infection on a daily basis in the previous two days.

Today marks exactly 8 months since coronavirus arrived in our country, and Serbia is in the third wave, in which all records are being broken.

Although there is speculation, and possible measures are mentioned, it is not entirely known whether they will be introduced.

As we learned, there will be several items on the table in front of the HQ members. In addition to analyzing the epidemiological situation, epidemiologists will present their views on what measures should be introduced.

According to the statements made by epidemiologists in the previous two or three days, it can be concluded that it is possible to shorten the opening hours of hospitality establishments, temporarily close cinemas and theaters, and it is possible to extend the fall school break. The media also speculate that it is possible to temporarily close kindergartens.

Member of the Crisis HQ Professor Dr. Branislav Tiodorovic, an epidemiologist, said yesterday that, when the number of newly infected persons exceeds 2,000, which happened in Serbia, the only effective measure is to close all hospitality establishments after 9 pm and limit the gathering to a maximum of five people. His colleague Dr. Predrag Kon, also a member of the HQ, pointed out that the epidemiological situation is deteriorating and that it is moving from unfavorable towards an emergency one, and that mass gatherings and risky contacts should be avoided.

The story about the extension of the fall break was launched by Minister of Education Branko Ruzic who said on Wednesday that the Crisis HQ would be asked to possibly extend the falll break for primary school children.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, who is at the head of the HQ, also said on Wednesday that there are no plans to strengthen the measures at the moment, and that it would be wrong to close the schools now.

In Serbia, the number of new coronavirus cases on Wednesday exceeded 2,000 in 24 hours for the first time since the beginning of the pandemic- 2,412 new cases were recorded, based on 12,617 people tested, while 2,181 new cases out of 12,480 tested were confirmed on Thursday.

Since the beginning of the epidemic until today, Covid 19 has been confirmed in 55,676 people, out of a total of 1,388,716 tested. Coronavirus has so far taken 861 lives in Serbia.

Currently, 2,125 patients are hospitalized, of which 57 breathe with the help of mechanical ventilation.

Today's session of the Crisis HQ will be held in a slightly changed composition, considering that in the meantime, Serbia got a new government, so now all the new ministers are members of the HQ.
