Dr. Vladan Cvetanovic, director of the Covid hospital in Krusevac, says that the youngest patient who has been on a ventilator for two weeks in that health institution was born in 1988.

He stressed that this can be a lesson to all those attending corona parties.

"How can they be sure that maybe they won't be the next to end up on a ventilator? What makes a difference from person to person is that some will have lighter symptoms, while others will end up on a ventilator. That's a big gamble, primarily for our younger population with their irresponsible behavior," said Cvetanovic.

When asked if he is worried about the announced relaxing of measures, Cvetanovic said that he is.

"The relaxing of measures does not mean a return to normal life, we are far from that, but we have one good path - it is vaccination. We strongly appeal on our citizens to get vaccinated, we have the vaccines, they are sufficiently safe, approved by all regulatory bodies, so the only way to return to normal life is vaccination, and not just the easing of measures," said Cvetanovic.

He also stressed that strict control of measures is needed, because "personal responsibility obviously does not exist."

He pointed out that the Covid Hospital in Krusevac has enough equipment but that the medical staff has been in the Covid system for 14 months.

"They have been at war for 14 months, they are all the same people - anesthesiologists, pulmonologists, infectologists... 14 months on the verge of psychological and physical endurance, so let's continue with the vaccination so that we can all return to normal life together," concluded is Cvetanovic.

Vladan Cvetanovic also said that the number of new cases is encouraging, but that there is still a large number of patients in hospitals.

"There is a slight decrease in the number of admissions compared to the number of discharges, but that's still at the level of statistical error. The pressure on the healthcare system is still great," says Cvetanovic.

He pointed out that more than 350 patients are currently hospitalized in the Covid hospital in Krusevac.

"What is characteristic of our hospital - it's not just a matter of numbers, but that patients in most serious condition are hospitalized here, the most complex ones from the entire region," the doctor adds.
