President of Slovenia Borut Pahor today rejected the idea of changing borders of the states of the former Yugoslavia and said that he supports the enlargement of the EU to the Western Balkans and the enlargement of the EU.

Pahor told a press conference that he had no information about a non-paper and that he had not spoken about it with Prime Minister Janez Jansa.

"I defend the thesis that it would be best for the EU to decide to include all the countries of the Western Balkans in the EU," said Pahor.

Pahor said that EU enlargement is becoming a matter of time, not just of the political will.

"The slow pace of enlargement is melting confidence in the European perspective in these countries, and the consequences could be the strengthening of nationalism and an increasing influence of third countries," Pahor said, according to the Slovenian portal 24ur.

He stressed that enlargement will prevent the appearance of dangerous ideas about changing the borders, which, as he said, he strongly opposes.

"As the president of the Republic, I visited BiH seven times. Neither during the last visit, nor earlier nor later, was I acquainted with any unofficial document. I strongly oppose the idea of the final disintegration of Yugoslavia and the change of borders," said the Slovenian president.

According to him, a peaceful process of changing borders in the Western Balkans is not possible.

"A faster process of integration of the countries of the Western Balkans into Euro-Atlantic organizations would strengthen the principle of territorial integrity of the countries and the security and stability of the whole of Europe," stated Pahor.

These, he warned, are very sensitive issues.
