The Serbian Port Authority and the Romanian Administration of Danube and Sea Ports (APDM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Belgrade today, which will contribute to the exchange of experiences, promotional activities and joint projects in the field of cargo and passenger traffic.

Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic, who attended the signing, assessed that "Romania is a synonym of friendship with Serbia" because it is a country Serbia has no open issues with, while "such relations have existed for centuries."

He recalled the history of earlier joint investments on the Danube River, and above all on the Djerdap (Iron Gate) Dam. He also pointed out that during the last several decades, investments in water, traffic and infrastructure in Serbia have been lacking, and stressed that this is changing today.

He said that Serbia is planning investments of half a billion euros in that area, which will enable better connection of Serbian Danube ports with the railway, as well as those ports with the Black Sea. Momirovic added that this should have been done 30 or 40 years ago.

He says those investments are only a part of a "big investment wave Serbia is in."

Ambassador of Romania to Serbia Silvia Davidoiu emphasized that this signing is a historic moment within the cooperation between the two countries in the field of navigation on the Danube, which, she added, has lasted a long time. She assessed the current cooperation as good and pointed out that there are new opportunities for cooperation ahead of Serbia and Romania.

She said that the Memorandum is the legal basis for the exchange of information and investments, and that it will enable a better flow of goods in both directions, pointing out some of the projects developed by ports on both sides of the border.
