According to folk tales, a spa at the foot of the Cer Mountain, in the Macva District, was discovered quite by accident. Years later, studies were conducted which contributed to the development of the Badanja spa.

It is above all known to cure rheumatic diseases. Also, the thermo-mineral waters of this spa successfully treat various gynecological diseases, and help after traumas and injuries.

The surroundings of this spa are also interesting. Apart from the Health Trail, which offers visitors the opportunity to get to know local natural beauties, the Tronosa Monastery, Tekeris and Trsic, as well as Loznica and the Cer Mountain are also nearby. The remains of medieval towns, Trojan's and Kosana's, are also nearby, as is Cokesina, known for a battle during which Serbian rebels managed to defeat Turkish invaders.

Miraculous discovery of healing waters

Although official data shows that 1889 was the turning point for the development of this spa, a legend dating back much earlier is associated with the discovery of its healing properties.

When local shepherds once grazed cattle where this spa is located today, they noticed that the animals liked to roll in the mud. Then, the legend says, a true miracle happened before their eyes. The animals that would fall sick in front of them would almost completely regain their strength after rolling in the mud.

Whether the story is true or not, it was only over time that the healing properties from the water at the springs of the Badanja spa were discovered.

Spa at the foot of Mt. Cer

This increasingly well known spa resort is located in the area of the settlement of Donja Bresnica, which belongs to the Loznica territory and has a population of only a few hundred people. The settlement is located 180 meters above sea level.

It is believed that the spa was named after "badanj" - that is, a pipe that was made out of of hollow wood and which was used to bring water to the mills.

There are two sources of medicinal, thermo-mineral water in this spa. Water with high content of hydrogen sulfide, which contains iron, springs from the Iron Source and reaches a temperature of 15 degrees. It also contains ammonia, dissolved carbon monoxide and nitrogen. Extremely cold water springs from the source Iron Waters, also known as Red Waters, and there is increased radioactivity in it.

In addition to patients with arthritis and rheumatic diseases, the thermal waters of the Badanja spa also help with certain gynecological diseases, and have a positive effect during recovery from various injuries and traumas. Water from the Red Waters spring is especially good for anemia, but also for various stomach diseases.
