The first case of flurona, a combination of flu and coronavirus, has been discovered in a patient by the Institute of Public Health in Zagreb, reports Jutarnji List. Recently, the first case of flurona was registered in Israel as well.

According to information from the Institute, this is Covid and influenza A, the so-called swine flu strain H3N2.

Experts stress that those who have been vaccinated against the flu will not get "flurona," because the H3N2 strain is in that vaccine.

That the first case of flurona has been registered in Croatia was confirmed in a statement for HRT this morning by Profressor Jasmina Vranes, head of the Institute's microbiology department.

"Yesterday we detected both viruses in a patient. Influenza virus and coronavirus. It's known that it's possible to become infected with multiple pathogens at once. The combination has been dubbed flurona. The flu (season) will start, it is usually between Christmas and Easter, there wasn't one last year, but we have had cases over the summer. We must see what the clinical picture will be in the person who has both viruses at the same time," she explained.
