Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petkovic said on Monday that Albin Kurti's efforts to completely ban the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections from taking place in Kosovo and Metohija on April 3 and thus abolish basic human and civil rights of Serbs will lead to unforeseeable consequences on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.

"Such a scenario by Kurti would turn the achieved progress in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina years back, and all international representatives operating in Kosovo and Metohija should be aware of that," Petkovic pointed out in a statement.

He assessed that it is a destructive intention of Kurti to annul and trample on all agreements reached so far, but that the question is whether the international community will calmly observe Albanian politicians playing with normalization of relations, or if they will move from words and statements to concrete deeds this time.

"The Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija expect to be enabled to exercise their right to vote on April 3, in the same way as during all election processes so far," Petkovic said.

He also pointed out that these elections are the last chance and test for the international community, which has an absolute responsibility and obligation to ensure the implementation and respect of democratic achievements and principles and enable the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija to exercise their right to vote.

Petkovic was reacting to a statement made by the head of the Self-Determination parliamentary group, Mimoza Kusari Lila, who said earlier on Monday that the same practice should be applied for the April 3 elections in Kosovo and Metohija as has been during a recent referendum on changes to the Serbian Constitution.
