Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin said today that the seizure of 300 kilograms of marijuana in Veliki Trnovac was the first major seizure in that place after decades, stressing that previously such operations were not undertaken not because of police but because of political reasons, because this is an ethnically pure Albanian area, where any arrival of the police is interpreted as provoking inter-ethnic conflicts.

"This is an environment that has constantly tried to defend itself politically from fighting crime. Serbia, led by President Aleksandar Vucic, is a country where the law is applied everywhere and it does not matter which religion or nation you are, it's only important whether you respect the law," Minister Vulin told RTS this morning.

He stressed that criminals "have no nationality" and that he is not interested in whether someone is Albanian or Serb, because if they are smuggling marijuana and engaging in crime, they will be found and punished.

The minister said that the arrest of this criminal gang, which, he stressed is part of the Albanian mafia, broke a ring of marijuana smuggling to Turkey, and recalled that members of the same smuggling group got caught in Arandjelovac with 670 kilograms of marijuana a little over a year ago.

"The marijuana was supposed to end up in Turkey, it came from Albania, so it was supposed to be transferred to Serbia via North Macedonia and from there by truck to Turkey, where currently a kilogram of marijuana costs between 6,000 and 8,000 euros. In this particular case, Turkey has become an importer of drugs," the minister explained.

According to him, after these two large seizures and arrests, this criminal gang, which had a powerful base in Serbia, Albania, North Macedonia and Kosovo and Metohija, has been broken up.

"We've shown how serious police works. I am proud of the members of the Ministry of the Interior, the Drug Department and all parts of the police who worked together and showed that the synergy gives extraordinary results," said Minister Vulin.
