The president of the Serb List, Goran Rakic, said today that the pogrom against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija on March 2004, "must not remain a crime without punishment."

In a written statement on the occasion of the 18th anniversary of the pogrom, Rakic recalled that 19 people were killed and more than 1,000 were injured, that 35 churches and monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church were destroyed, while 4,000 Serbs were expelled and six towns and nine villages were ethnically cleansed, "before the eyes of the international community."

"Memories of that event cannot and must not fade. On that day, everything that had the Serbian name was the target but despite everything, the fight and faith in a better tomorrow is inevitable because we, as a nation, emerge from difficult moments even more united in order to survive and stay in our homes," said Rakic, according to the Serb List.

He reminded that no one has been held responsible for the suffering caused to the Serbs during the March 2004 pogrom.

"In some of the ethnically cleansed cities, there are no Serbs even today, nor is there a sincere will to support their return. Much has not been repaired to this day. That is why, even today, for the sake of justice, we must call things by their real name and constantly insist that justice be done, because March 17, 2004 must not remain a crime without punishment," the president of the Serb List added.
