DSS leader Jovanovic: Serbia must not impose sanctions against Russia

President of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) and one of the leaders of the NADA Coalition Milos Jovanovic says that Serbia must not impose sanctions against the Russian Federation, because that would be contrary to our vital national interests.

"Do not forget that this is not a conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but between the West and Russia, and that us siding with the West - and imposing sanctions is just that - would directly endanger our vital interests, from Kosovo and Metohija, through the position of the Serb people in Montenegro, to the Serb Reppublic," the DSS president pointed out in an interview with Danas.

He assessed that in all these issues, our national interests are endangered by the West and that this will not change even if Serbia imposed sanctions against Russia.

He added that Serbia has the direct support of Russia on many issues, and that would change if we sided with the West.

Jovanovic stressed that his position "is not a question of any Russophilia, but of preserving one's own interests."

"And, I also think of my one's own honor and dignity, which are not unimportant categories in the history of a nation," concluded Jovanovic.

Asked whether the claims of some opposition politicians that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has been blackmailed and would give in to all the blackmail coming from the West are correct, the DSS leader said that he "does not have that knowledge" and added that "it is not customary for him to engage in tavern politics," the DSS announced.
