We are only a few days away from May, but the weather feels like fall, while real winter prevails on the higher mountains.

This morning, the weather throughout Serbia is truly fall-like, given that the temperatures ranged from 8 to 14°C, while in Belgrade it was only 9°C. It was even colder on the mountains, so Sjenica reported 4°C, Zlatibor 3°C, and Kopaonik -3°C.

And while there was light rain in most parts of Serbia, in some places with moderate intensity, snow has been falling on the mountains higher than 1,300 meters above sea level, and up to 10 centimeters fell during the night.

Kopaonik had seven centimeters of snow this morning, while it was also snowing on Golija and Zlatar. It was snowing heavily on mountains in Kosovo and Metohija, where a cover of to 20 centimeters is expected to form today. The temperature in all these mentioned areas will stay below 0 degrees Celsius the whole day.

"It hasn't stopped snowing since last night. Golija has been bypassed by spring this year. When the previous snow begins to slowly disappear, new precipitation arrives and stays just as long. Nothing strange or unusual for this mountain beauty, it often happenes in May or June. Golija is adored by visitors for that reason, once someone comes and spends a few days in this pristine nature, they can't wait to come back again," says the Telegraf.rs reader.

On the roads in the higher mountain areas there is trampled snow and ice up to 3 centimeters, so vehicles need winter equipment.

During the previous day and night, even heavier snow fell on the mountains in the north of Montenegro, with more than 20 centimeters forming.

As a new cold spell awaits us mid next week, according to today's forecasts, snow may fall again on higher mountains.

The good news is that during the day, first in the north, and by the end of Wednesday and in the evening in other parts of Serbia, precipitation will stop and the sky will clear, so that Thursday and Friday will bring dry but windy weather.
