In an international operation carried out as part of Europol's operational working group "Balkan Cartel" 16 persons were arrested in Brazil - members of an organized criminal group charged with cocaine trafficking, including a Serbian citizen who is suspected to be the leader of this group.

Members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia, the Criminal Police Directorate, together with other colleagues from Europe and South and North America, through exchange of operational data, contributed to the dismantling of this organized criminal group, which smuggled cocaine from Brazil to Europe.

After a year and a half of hard work by police on both sides of the Atlantic, on October 5 Brazilian police raided several location and arrested 16 people, some of whom are suspected of having links to the criminal organization "Primeiro Comando da Capital" while a Serbian citizen was arrested on suspicion of being the organizer of this group suspected of organizing numerous shipments of narcotics between the two continents.

There is suspicion that the arrested organized crime group was connected to the seizures of cocaine in April and August 2022, when 5.7 tons of the drugs were confiscated in Cape Verde and another 1.3 tons in Brazil.

Breaking up this organized criminal group is one of a series of successes in the joint international fight against the "Balkan cartel," and the Serbian police, by submitting operational data, once again confirmed that it is a reliable and dedicated international partner in the fight against organized crime.

The Federal Police of Brazil, the National Police of Cape Verde, the Directorate of the Criminal Police of the Republic of Serbia, the National Crime Agency of the UK, the US DEA, Europol and MAOC-N participated in the operation.
