"Attack on high school student in Kosovska Mitrovica is message to Serbs to leave Kosovo and Metohija"

Srdjan Barac from the Center for Social Stability today commented on the incident in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica, when members of the so-called Kosovo police harassed and intimidated a Serb high school graduate.
According to the analyst, this physical attack represents continued policy carried out by the political elites in the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, who want to send a message to the Serbs that it will not be possible for them to lead a normal there, and that they should leave.
"Every time there is some semblance of allowing people normal life, and that is certainly during those graduation days when students feel happy that they are finishing school, someone wants to send a message that they cannot relax even then, and that it will be made impossible, in every way, for them to survive in that area," he told Tanjug.
Commenting on the warrant issued by the Serbian Interior Ministry (MUP) for the arrest of members of the so-called of the Kosovo police who attacked the Serb youth in Kosovska Mitrovica, Barac said that it is very significant that the state has started the process of putting legal pressure on ethnic Albanians who live in the southern Serbian province, and who think they can get away with anything.
Barac stressed that it is very important for them to know that Serbia is initiating legal and judicial processes that will eventually reach them.
When asked whether Europe (EU) will remain silent about such incidents and whether we can expect any reaction from to this attack, Barac assessed that there is deafening silence there, and a passive approach when it comes to making sure Serbs remain in their homes in Kosovo and Metohija, which is why Belgrade is asking the EU to protect European values and to declare whether it supports police brutality happening in this way in that area.
According to him, this sublimates a form of security, diplomatic and political pressure on Serbia, where Serbia must fight on every front because when this type of oppression of Serbs is happening in the province, Serbia must respond.
"On the other hand, there are regional changes, old wounds are being reopened, the problem of Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina is being reopened, this is all aimed at Serbia having to deal with that as well, while it is being diplomatically pressured via certain non-papers, and is facing internal political problems that are spurred on by someone from the outside," said Barac.
