Situation in Zajecar calm after local elections, riot police deployed in front of City Assembly

A day after local elections were held in Zajecar, the situation there is calm, while riot police can be seen in front of the City Assembly.
Several of officers, along with a number of police vans, were there around 7 am, Tanjug is reporting.
They left, then came back, after a brief confrontation last night between the police and opposition leaders who said their goal was to prevent election irregularities.
They also said they would defend election results.
Last night, central streets in Zajecar were closed as citizens gathered, while since this morning the traffic is unimpeded and there are no crowds.
According to the media, some opposition leaders entered the building of the City Assembly last night, but soon left.
Last night around 8 pm, citizens, students, veterans of the 63rd Parachute Brigade gathered in Zajecar, while supporters of the SNS also gathered in front of the party's local premises.
The Gendarmerie and riot police created a cordon between the two sides to prevent incidents.
President Aleksandar Vucic spoke last night to say that the SNS won "convincingly" in Zajecar, and by "a narrow margin" in Kosjeric, another town where local elections were held on Sunday.
Vucic also accused the opposition of violating electoral and other legal norms during the campaign and on election day.
