Streets are clear in Novi Sad, blockades put up again in two intersections in Cacak

In Novi Sad, traffic is functioning without hindrance after last night small groups of students blocking their faculties and citizens who support them also blocked several intersections in that city.

The main road near Uzice is also open this morning, as the protesting students ended the blockade of this road around 4 o'clock this morning.

In Cacak, two intersections in the central parts of the city were blocked again early this morning - the intersection near the former Moravica tavern, which connects to the main bridge over the Zapadna Morava River, and the intersection near Medicina Rada.

Small groups of citizens are bringing tires and placing dumpsters on the streets, and because of the blockade of these central intersections, traffic jams are forming in surrounding streets, reports Tanjug.

Last night, small groups of students who block faculties and citizens who support them blocked several intersections and bridges in Belgrade, as well as intersections in other cities.

During the night, the police removed all road blocks in Belgrade and traffic can function normally.

The protesting students said the reason for the blockades are the arrest of several students suspected of planning to violently overthrow the constitutional order. Another reason given is to provide support to those arrested for participating in the rioting that broke out after the protest organized by the students on Saturday evening.

A part of the participants in that gathering attacked police officers in several locations in Belgrade. 29 people were detained as a result, and are now being kept in police custody that can last up to 48 hours before they are brought before a prosecutor.

In addition, the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade ordered eight persons to be arrested on suspicion that they committed the criminal offense of preparing an offense against the constitutional order and security of Serbia.

The Prosecutor's Office announced that there are grounds for suspicion that on June 20, in the premises of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and on June 21 in the premises of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, among other things, these persons prepared an attack on state institutions, blockades of roads and key infrastructure in the territory of the entire country, with the goal of changing the state authorities through the use of violence.
