Serbian National Assembly President Ana Brnabic has sent a letter to EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos regarding the attack carried out by "blockaders" on the family home of SNS leader and presidential adviser Milos Vucevic.

In the letter, Brnabic pointed out that "European values must be applied consistently and equally to everyone."

Tanjug has learned that Brnabic clearly stated in the letter that Serbia is not a country that makes complaints on the international stage, but that she wants to inform the commissioner what kind of people have enjoyed the support of a part of the EU public.

"Serbia is not a country that complains on the international stage, and we do not seek arbitration in out internal issues by the European Union. This is neither its role, nor does that correspond to the principles of partnership. With this letter, I only want to draw your attention to the inadmissible and unimaginable in a democratic society acts perpetrated by the blockaders, bearing in mind that they certainly enjoy, or at least have enjoyed, significant public support from certain representatives of the EU and certain EU institutions," said Brnabic.

As particularly worrisome, she pointed out the reporting of certain media outlets, which portrayed this kind of attack on a man's family and privacy just because he has a different political opinion, as something fully legitimate.

Brnabic stated that "European values must be equally and consistently applied to everyone."

"And in this letter, I want to repeat and stress that Serbia is fully committed to the principles of sovereignty, responsibility and partnership on its European path. However, European values must be applied consistently and equally to everyone. We chose the European path, not because someone ordered us to, but because we believe in the values promoted by the European Union," wrote Brnabic.

She added that she expects clear and unequivocal support for democratic and European values in Serbia, for the institutions of the European Union to take this appeal seriously and to give clear and unequivocal support to democratic principles and the security of all political actors in Serbia.

Brnabic, as SNS ecretary for international cooperation, also addressed the president of the European People's Party (EPP), Manfred Weber, in order to inform him about "the values that the organizers of the blockade have."

A group of citizens who present themselves as "Zborovi Novi Sad" and students taking part in blocking the work of their faculties, publicly called for a rally to be held in Branimira Cosica Street in Novi Sad on Tuesday, where they booed, blew whistles, chanted and shouted insults in front of the family of SNS leader Milos Vucevic.

People who were sitting in a nearby cafe, and whom the media said were SNS supporters, were insulted, provoked, whistled at, while the protesters also threw eggs in the direction of the cafe.

They remained there until after midnight, when the police ordered them to disperse.
