PM Macut on oil and JANAF: This is pressing issue for both Serbia and region, time for diversification

Prime Minister Djuro Macut said last night in London that intensive work is being done to find a solution to the problem related to US sanctions against Petroleum Industry of Serbia (NIS) and the stopping of the flow of oil through the JANAF pipeline, and added that he also discussed this with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.
After the Western Balkans summit, held as part of the Berlin process, Macut, taking questions from Croatian journalists, reminded that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic also spoke with Russian partners about all this.
"Our problem with JANAF is of course very clear, we have this problem with oil transport. We did not talk about it specifically, I initiated with Prime Minister Plenkovic to perhaps pay more attention to it, he is also in favor," said Macut.
The Serbian prime minister stated that the talks with the Croatian side in this regard will have to be very direct and very intense.
"We are working on it. I can't tell you anything now because we don't have anything on the table, but it's very clear that this is a pressing issue for Serbia. But I don't think it is a pressing issue only for us, this is the moment to talk about diversification because countries were somehow too intert with unilateral or, I should say, single-channel supplies," said Macut.
He added that even though Croatia is not landlocked, it does not mean that at some point we should not think about other options.
"The more connected Europe is, the easier life will be. We are doing all this for the sake of the citizens. We are not working for ourselves, we are working for the survival and overall better development of all countries in the region," said Macut.
