The police in Belgrade have arrested Merima Alickanovic, 24, on suspicion of that she last night attempted to kill police officer V.V. in front of the Savski Venac police station in the Serbian capital, Telegraf.rs has learned.

Prosecution's statement
The on-duty public prosecutor from the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade conducted an on-site investigation at the Savski Venac police station, where a 24-year-old citizen of Bosnia and Herzegovina attempted to kill police officer V.V., using a knife.
The incident happened around 04:00 this morning. In response, the officer first warned the suspect and then fired several bullets from his service weapon in the air and into the ground, one of which hit the suspect in the leg.
The suspect has been hospitalized at the Military Medical Academy (VMA), after which she will be detained for up to 48 hours on suspicion that she committed the criminal offense of attempted murder, the prosecution announced on Thursday.
It is believed that she arrived to the entrance of the Savski venac police station and started an argument with officer V.V., demanding that the police "go to Caciland" (a term used by anti-government protesters to describe their opponents, camped in Pionirski Park in Belgrade).
Realizing that the woman had a knife, the police officer asked for support, and when they appeared, he moved towards the suspect with a baton, who then tried to stab him with a knife.
V.V. managed to evade the attack, exiting the station.
However, M.A. followed him, still with the knife in her hand, after which the police officer took out his service pistol and first warned her, and then fired several bullets in the air and into the ground, one of which hit the suspect in the leg.
V.V. has been diagnosed with minor physical injuries, while M.A. sustained a serious injury and will undergo surgery.
After the checks, it was established that M.A. entered the Republic of Serbia on September 29 and that she has no registered residence in our country.
The first results of the investigation indicate that the police officer acted in line with the law in every respect, the prosecution said.
Emergency services previously confirmed for Tanjug that early this morning a woman got seriously injured from a firearm in Savska Street in Belgrade.
