Authorities decide to demolish Vjesnik high-rise in Zagreb!
The Vjesnik building in Zagreb, which was destroyed in a horrific fire last week, will most likely be demolished.
Croatian Minister of Spatial Planning, Construction, and State Assets Branko Bacic said that the building "will need to be removed."
"The reports we received can be presented through the conclusions of the Center for Engineering. It is definitely necessary to begin removing the Vjesnik structure,” the minister said.
Bacic added that a demolition project must be prepared, followed by public procurement, and the demolition itself.
“In order for the Ministry to be able to proceed with the removal, we have already convened a meeting with experts today so that, based on their proposals, we can determine the model of how and in what manner the Vjesnik high-rise should be removed, from a safety and professional standpoint. We will meet with potential contractors and designers so that we can begin the public procurement process,” the minister said.
Bacic added that experts will determine how the building should be demolished, and they believe that the process should start "sooner rather than later."
“We are starting these activities immediately, today. Time is needed to develop the project and prepare for the demolition; we will know more about deadlines in the coming days," Bacic concluded.
