Djuric: Significant setback in dialogue due to non-constructive approach of Pristina

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric stated today at the GLOBSEC forum BELTALKS: Belgrade Economic Talks, that there has been a significant setback in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, because the authorities in Pristina are not constructive and cooperative.

"The Belgrade-Pristina dialogue was mentioned here, we saw a significant setback in the level of collective political, economic, cultural and other rights of non-majority communities in Kosovo. And that is also an important 'elephant in the room' and there is no way around it, but the authorities there have simply not been as constructive and cooperative as we would like," said Djuric.

The minister cited university degrees as an example.

"The paradox is that with Serbian university diplomas, with diplomas earned from the University of Kosovska Mitrovica, you can get a job in Berlin, you can work in London, but you cannot work in Pristina without additional, extensive procedures," Djuric remarked, and added:

"We reached an agreement more than a decade ago to accept each other's diplomas, but what really has to happen is to stop using the issue of (Kosovo's) status as some kind of advantage in relation to such basic and fundamental rights, like the right to have university degrees recognized."
