Vucic announces mass recruitment of soldiers, mentions HQ-17 missiles: Dangerous times, powerful weapons!
President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said today that this and next year will see a significantly greater influx of new soldiers into the units of the Serbian Army because of the changes to the legislation related to the military recently adopted by the Serbian National Assembly, as well as higher salaries.
Vucic was touring the Mija Stanimirovic Barracks in the town of Nis when he said that "in the heated geopolitical and regional situation, which is not easy" the Serbian Army units have more soldiers than in previous years.
"The inflow of soldiers is greater than the outflow. This and next year, it will be significantly greater due to the changes in the law that we passed in the National Assembly and the possibility of professional soldiers getting hired on permanent contracts. At the same time, it seems to me that better salaries are something that attracts people to the Army, as well as the patriotic stance towards this most important and popular state institution," said Vucic, who visited the barracks together with Minister of Defense Bratislav Gasic and Chief of the General Staff Milan Mojsilovic.
Vucic said that food reserves for the Army are at 100 percent and that there are also very large fuel reserves, some types even over 100 percent, while only aircraft fuel is slightly below, but that this is being worked on.
He added that replenishment of ordnance is very good, as well as that the ranks of special units have never been filled to this level before.
"A very high percentage, there will soon be one unit at 92 percent, one at 85 percent, and one at 79 percent, and now we will increase that, so that they are all over 95 percent - so, those are the important things," the president said.
During his tour, he was able to inspect military equipment available to this Serbian Army barracks.
Vucic said that among the weapons are HQ-17 anti-aircraft missiles, bought in China, which "directly defend Nis."
"That is a very powerful weapon that protects the city of Nis. Let's not talk about which cities and which parts of the territory are protected by which weapons - but since there are things that are public and you don't have to keep secret, people in Nis should know that a very, very powerful tool is protecting them from potential aggressor attack," said Vucic.
