Temperature drops as low as -18°C in 2 places in Serbia! This is when new wave of precipitation is coming
A freezing cold morning dawned in Serbia today, with a clear sky in many areas. It is precisely the lack of clouds and the snow on the ground that has contributed to the current cold snap.
The minimum temperature in Pozega and Sjenica was -18 degrees Celsius this morinng, in Smederevska Palanka -17, and in Cuprija -16.
In other parts of Serbia, temperatures ranged from -14 to -5 degrees. It was -6 in central Belgrade, -11 on the outskirts of the capital. Negotin was the "warmest" with -5 degrees. It was -11 and -15 degrees on Zlatibor and Kopaonik mountains, respectively.
This weather is the consequence of the penetration of a polar air mass from the north of Europe, that moving across our area further towards the south.
During the day, a warmer air mass is expected to arrive from the west, but it will still remain cold. Maximum temperatures will go up to -2 degrees in Vojvodina in the north, while they will range from 0 to 3 degrees in other parts of Serbia, up to 2 degrees in Belgrade.
More clouds are expected during the day, in the afternoon, in the evening and during the night, bringing snow and rain. In northern, southwestern, western, central and eastern parts of Serbia and in Belgrade, rain is expected to freeze on the ground and create very dangerous ice.
Citizens are advised to follow information coming from state and other competent services and act in line with their announcements and warnings.
It will snow during the coming weekend, adding 5 to 15 centimeters of new snow, and up to 20 centimeters on the mountains. There will be more snow south of the Sava and Danube rivers, especially in the south and southeast of Serbia, while it will remain mostly dry in the northern province of Vojvodina.
Starting on Sunday, it will get colder again, with temperatures staying below zero around the clock at the start of next week.
According to current forecasts, a significant warming is expected after January 15.
