SNOW returns to Serbia! Strong cyclone brings blizzards, another 20 centimeters of new snow

A strong cyclone has engulfed Serbia, bringing rain to most of the country, but also snow.

Southerly currents prevail in the cyclone, so it is relatively warm, with temperatures this morning up to 12 degrees Celsius.

The cooling, as part of the cold front, has so far reached the north of Vojvodina in northern Serbia, where temperatures are about 4 degrees and where the morning was the warmest part of the day.

It is colder only in the east of Serbia, in Negotin and Zajecar, around 0°C.

It is relatively warm for this time of year, even on the mountains.

Zlatibor reported 4, and Sjenica 5°C this Friday.

Even on higher-laying mountains, the temperatures are not very low, but are still low enough to allow for snowfall.

Kopaonik and Brezovica are currently measuring -1°C, with snow.

This morning there was snow on the mountains of southern Serbia above 1,500 meters above sea level.

A snowstorm and blizzards hit the mountains in Kosovo and Metohija, on Prokletije, Sar, and other mountains higher than 1,500 meters above sea level.

More snow fell on Brezovica this morning, and there is already up to one meter of snow in the wider area.

Drivers are told not to head for the mountains without winter equipment and snow chains.

In the afternoon, the rain will turn to snow on the mountains of western Serbia as well, and then at the end of the day and in the evening in the lower regions in the west and north, this weather spreading throughout the rest of the country during the night.

Today, 20 centimeters of new snow will fall on the higher mountains, up to 5 cm in the lowlands, and up to 10 cm in the low-laying areas of eastern Serbia.

The snow will be accompanied by a strong southerly wind for most of the day on the higher mountains, with temperatures around 0 degrees, while during the night there will be a stronger cooling with a strong northerly wind as temperatures are expected to drop to minus 10 degrees.
