Djuric: It's important that truth about position of Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija is heard loud and clear in US

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djuric said that during his very important working visit to Washington, which started yesterday, he will talk with top US officials about the position of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija and stressed that it is important that the truth about what is happening in the southern Serbian province be heard loud and clear.

"Our task both here in Washington and in every other place is that the truth about what is happening in Kosovo and Metohija is heard loud and clear," Djuric told Tanjug.

He pointed out that the main goal is to involve a critical mass of people who find this unacceptable, and who are part of political institutions, Congress and the establishment.

"Not with the aim of lobbying against anyone, but with the aim of creating preconditions for far more normal relations. Because this path of conflict, which (Albin) Kurti's regime has been pushing the territory of Kosovo and Metohija down for years, is certainly not good for any ethnic group that lives in that territory of ours," said Djuric.

Asked how he sees the future of the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, considering all the unilateral moves made by Pristina, Djuric pointed out that we should never forget the fact that the election campaign slogan of Kurti's party a few years ago was, "no to negotiations".

"The form may have changed, but unfortunately I have no reason to believe that the essence has changed. And in the previous three and a half years, we have seen, on the ground, through unilateral and uncoordinated moves, efforts to suppress through violent means not only the influence of Serbia, but also to cut the vital lifelines of our people in Kosovo and Metohija," Djuric said, and concluded:

"And I would say that this is a consequence of the lack of understanding that progress in the dialogue and building trust can only come about through strengthening the position of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija, rather than through oppressing them."
