Minister Selakovic: Preparing assassination of Aleksandar Vucic is attack on the president and on Serbia

Minister of Culture Nikola Selakovic has said that we have been witnessing a campaign of (Dragan) Solak's propaganda machinery for years, and the so-called media outlets which knowingly present President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and his family as targets.

Selakovic also pointed out that after the arrest of two men suspected of plotting a violent change of the constitutional order and assassination of the president of the Republic, "we can see what this poison results in."

"This is a direct attack not only on the president of the Republic, but also on the state of Serbia, its institutions and the constitutional order," Selakovic stressed in a statement reacting to these developments, and pointed out that whoever thinks that killing a political opponent is a legitimate form of (political) struggle has put themselves outside any civilized framework.

He added that this matter is so serious that any downplaying, denial of its seriousness and reducing it to a story of two drunks in a tavern is tantamount to participating in the preparation of the crime.

Selakovic said that it is necessary to thoroughly investigate this case, determine the background and possible logistics and act in the most serious and decisive manner.

"The state of Serbia must and wants to respond strongly, decisively and without compromise. Anyone who incites, justifies or in any way supports violence must know that they will face the full force of the law," stressed Selakovic.

He added that this is not a struggle for power, but a struggle for whether we will live in an orderly state or in a "lynching society".

"The arrest of the persons suspected of preparing the assassination of President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic and members of his family is chilling proof of how far the long-term poisoning of the public space with hatred, violence and dehumanization can go," said Selakovic.

The minister pointed out that there is not even the slightest justification for such actions and there is no political goal, ideology or frustration that can be an excuse for planning a murder.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) announced on Monday evening that its members from various units and departments, along with members of the BIA agency, arrested D.R. (51) and M.R. (43) from Kraljevo on suspicion that they were plotting a violent change of the constitutional order of Serbia and the assassination of the president of the Republic.
