PM Macut: Threats against President Vucic must not be taken lightly, authorities must react decisively
Prime Minister of Serbia Djuro Macut has said, regarding the latest threats against President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, that not a single threat, regardless of who it is directed at, should be taken lightly, and that he expects the competent authorities to react decisively and in line with the law.
"As a society, we must clearly say that there is no justification for hate speech and calls for violence. I've pointed to this several times, because such rhetoric destroys trust, deepens divisions and threatens the safety of all citizens," Macut stated in a post on Instagram.
The prime minister added that he provides the deepest support to President Vucic and his family.
"I expect the competent authorities to react decisively and in line with the law, and to bring back to the culture of dialogue and responsibility into the public space," said Macut.
The Higher Court in Kraljevo on Tuesday ordered detention lasting up to 30 days for D.R. (50) and M.R. (42), suspected of having planned the murder of the president of Serbia and members of his family.
The suspects have been detained so that they would not repeat or complete the crime they attempted or threatened to carry out.
The two men are suspected of committing the criminal offense of preparing an offense against the constitutional order and security of Serbia, in connection with the criminal offense of attacking the constitutional order.
