THEY DESTROYED BRIDGES, SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS - BUT NOT OUR SPIRIT: Dacic on anniversary of start of NATO bombing
On the occasion of marking the 27th anniversary of the beginning of the NATO bombing campaign against the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, i.e., Serbia and Montenegro, the leader of Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) and Deputy PM Ivica Dacic posted on his Instagram profile, stressing that March 24 remains one of the most difficult moments in recent Serbian history.
Dacic reminded that NATO started and carried out its aggression without any decision of the United Nations Security Council, and that the attacks left a permanent wound in the memory of the people.
"Spirit of people is stronger than bombs"
In his post, Dacoc spoke abut the destruction Serbia suffered in 1999, noting that the targets included civilian structures - schools, hospitals, innocent people's homes.
"Innocent people, children, women and the elderly suffered. It was an aggression against a small country that was defending its freedom and dignity," Dacic wrote.
He stressed that, despite the force it was exposed to, Serbia was not broken. According to him, from the days of suffering emerged an even stronger awareness of the values that cannot be destroyed by bombs or pressure - namely, freedom, independence and the right to choose one's own path.
Our duty to remember innocent victims
Dacic also stated that it is the duty of the state and society to preserve the truth about those days, both for the sake of the victims and for the sake of future generations. He pointed out that after difficult days, Serbia continued to rebuild and become stronger.
