MYSTERIOUS DEATH OF MISA OMEGA: Serbia's "king of privatization" found dead in Belgrade apartment

Well-known businessman Milomir Joksimovic (65), known by his nickname Misa Omega, has been found dead in his apartment in Palilula, Belgrade, yesterday around noon.

A pistol was found next to the body, while the results of the autopsy are currently awaited to officially confirm the cause of death.

Initial information points to suicide

According to unofficial information from the scene, Joksimovic likely committed suicide using a firearm. The police conducted an investigation in cooperation with the competent prosecutor's office, after which the body was transferred to the Institute of Forensic Medicine.

Neighbors in the building say that they saw Joksimovic rarely as of late. According to them, he lived alone and was in poor health.

"He was sick and withdrawn. We haven't seen much of him lately, we had no idea that this could happen," they say.

Rise and fall of "privatization king"

During the 1990s and 2000s, Milomir Joksimovic was one of the most influential figures in Serbian business. His nickname, Misa Omega, came from the name of his first big company, and he was associated with dozens of companies in different sectors.

He was considered one of the biggest actors in the privatization process in Serbia. Joksimovic managed numerous establishments, retail chains, construction and agricultural companies.

Joksimovic owned some of Belgrade's iconic restaurants and hotels, and his business empire at its peak included dozens of companies.

In recent years, Joksimovic withdrew almost completely from public life and the media. According to acquaintances, his former empire had shrunk significantly, and he turned to battling his disease and living an isolated life in Palilula.

The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be known after the official autopsy report has been released.
