LIKE A HORROR MOVIE: Workers dispatched to repair transformer station in Zemun find electrocuted body inside
A part of Zemun, a municipality of Belgrade, was suddenly plunged into darkness on Wednesday evening.
Citizens reported a power outage, and an on-duty team from the electric utility company EDB was immediately dispatched to the field to locate and eliminate the malfunction, and reestablish a regular electricity supply.
However, what they found at the location, in Cvijiceva Street, was well beyond any usual technical problem.
Death in the dark
Telegraf.rs has learned that upon arriving at the scene, the workers noticed that the transformer station had been broken into. When they went inside, they found the body of an unidentified male.
According to initial and unofficial information from the investigation, the unfortunate man died while attempting to dismantle transformer elements made of copper in order to steal them, but was instead killed by electric shock.
It was this that caused a short circuit and cut off electricity supply to that part of Zemun last night.
Investigation in progress
The police and ambulance teams were sent to the scene immediately, and forensic experts conducted a detailed investigation.
The prosecution has ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Institute of Forensic Medicine, that will determine the exact cause of death. The victim is yet to be identified as he carried no personal documents.
The police continue to work to shed light on all the circumstances of this case.
EDB has in the meantime once again appealed on citizens not to access high-voltage facilities without authorization under any circumstances, as this puts lives in danger and is illegal.
