ACCIDENT IN CENTRAL BELGRADE Tram derails, crashes into building, 12 people injured

A serious traffic accident happened this morning around 09:30 on the corner of Cara Dusana and Knicaninova streets in the Dorcol neighborhood in central Belgrade.

A tram derailed and crashed into a building, leaving the vehicle's cabin crushed, and causing parts of the building to fall onto the sidewalk.

The line 10 tram derailed under as yet undetermined circumstances, traveled uncontrolably through an intersection, and then crashed straight into the building at the corner of the two streets.

According to the latest information, ten passengers in the tram were injured, having suffered cuts and contusions.

Two women, who were inside the building, have been lightly injured, but are also being treated for shock.

Our portal exclusively published the first photos and videos from the scene, which were recorded by eyewitnesses immediately after the horrific crash.

The footage clearly shows the dramatic moment while the dust is still settling: the front part of the tram completely destroyed, the facade of the building and the store on the ground floor seriously damaged.

Traffic collapse and investigation

Tram and car traffic in Cara Dusana Street was completely halted in both directions this morning, as big traffic jams were forming in all the nearby streets and towards Kalemegdan.

The police were securing the scene and investigating. The investigation will determine the exact cause of this serious accident - whether it was a technical fault affecting the vehicle, a problem with the tram rails, or the human factor.
