PROSECUTION ISSUES URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT AFTER BELGRADE TRAM ACCIDENT: 15 people hospitalized

The on-duty public prosecutor from the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade on Monday attended the investigation at the scene of a serious traffic accident that occurred earlier in the day in the Dorcol neighborhood, the prosecutor's office has announced.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Cara Dusana and Knicaninova streets, when the tram derailed, flew through the intersection, and stopped only after crashing into a residential building.

According to official information from the prosecutor's office, there are currently 15 people hospitalized from the accident, including the tram driver. The extent of their injuries is being assessed.

Urgent on-site investigation

In order to precisely determine the cause of this accident, the prosecutor immediately issued orders to implement urgent investigative actions at the scene:

An urgent technical inspection of the tram was ordered to determine possible mechanical or electronic malfunctions.

The police will download footage from all security cameras in the area in order to reconstruct the movement of the vehicle.

All participants in this accident, as well as citizens who happened to be at the scene at the time of the accident, will be questioned.

All other legal measures are being implemented in order to fully and accurately establish the facts.

The First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office notes that the investigation is ongoing, and that the decision on further actions and the possible launch of criminal proceedings will be made immediately after all the necessary data and reports have been collected, about which the public will be informed in a timely manner.
