Ivica Dacic: Some media are using my dispute with British minister to tell another lie

Deputy PM and Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dacic says that using his argument with the British foreign secretary about the double standards that the West applies to Serbia, and also about the use of LRAD devices, as an alleged admission of the "sonic cannon" was used against anti-government protesters last year - which was presented by Aleksandar Radic and reported by some opposition media - represents brutal abuse and another in a series of lies told on this topic.

"In my many years of political work, I've heard all kinds of things, but to use my discussion and argument with the British foreign secretary about the double standards that the West has towards Serbia, and also about LRAD devices, as an alleged admission about the use of the so-called sonic cannon, which was presented by Aleksandar Radic and reported by some opposition media, is a brutal abuse and another in a series of lies on this topic," Dacic said, and added:

"As everyone knows everything that the West uses themselves is legitimate and justified, including killing with depleted uranium bombs, targeting a TV station or a passenger train (references to NATO attack on Serbia in 1999). In the case of LRAD devices, they are manufactured in the US, used by police and other security agencies in more than 100 countries, and no problem, that's fine."

"But, it's problematic when we have them," Dacic continued. "And they were bragging to me back in 2012 that they got them for the London Olympics as the most modern tools. By the way, the LRAD has two modes of operation: one as a louder speaker or a stronger megaphone, which can be heard farther and better and is used everywhere in the world, and that's also legally possible to do in our country, and that is why a warning was prepared that would have been played from a vehicle in front of the Assembly, which I did publicly play to all journalists, and the other mode is the sound effects of shrill or other sounds that can influence the protesters to disperse quickly."

"LRAD devices in Serbia have never been used in any of these modes, I firmly stand by that position," Dacic said, and added that has also been confirmed by the LRAD US manufacturers.

"And that is why it is senseless and disgraceful to look at my discussion with the British minister in order to excuse individuals facing accusation that they (spread) deceptive information about the alleged use of the so-called sonic cannon", concluded Dacic.
