Serious accident near Ruma claims 5th victim: Teen passes away after near 3-month battle

19-year-old Vuk Matic, who was seriously injured in a traffic accident near Ruma, died after more than two and a half months of fighting for his life.

Vuk was seriously injured in a horrific traffic crash that happened on April 27 on the Sabac-Belgrade highway, when a driver moving in the wrong direction crashed his Ford into the vehicle the victim was traveling in.

On that fateful day, four lives were extinguished, while Vuk Matic, although seriously injured, started the most difficult battle of his life.

For days, weeks and months his family, friends and all good-hearted people believed in a miracle. They hoped he would manage to recover, make his loved ones smile again and continue the life that was just beginning. Unfortunately, the outcome was different.

Vuk Matic will be laid to rest on Friday, July 17, in Belgrade.

Beside him, Lenka R. (22), Vuk G. (20) and Dejan DJ. (24) died instantly during the crash that happened near the village of Hrtkovci. The driver of the Golf, 24-year-old M.P., died a short while later in the hospital.

Vuk Matic suffered severe, life-threatening injuries, after which his family made an appeal on social media for everyone who is able to donate blood for him.

Just three minutes before the collision, at 12:57 hours, a warning appeared on a local Viber group, reading, "A man is driving the wrong way at 130 kilometers per hour, be careful!"

Unfortunately, the young people in the Golf did not see the message. At 13:00 hours, the head-on collision occurred.

The driver of the Ford was identified as Miodrag Piperin (48) from Belgrade.
