Vucic announces free trade agreement with Uzbekistan: Here's what it means for Serbian companies

A meeting between members of two delegations led by the president of Serbia and Uzbekistan was held today in the Palace of Serbia in New Belgrade. The first to speak was Aleksandar Vucic, who referred his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev as a dear friend.

"Dear friend, this visit has great significance for Serbia and for me personally," Vucic said and added:

"It's a special honor for me to be able to host you today, my dear friend, here in Belgrade and in Serbia, and to say that for Serbia, for our country, for me personally, this meeting is of enormous importance, with great expectations, great hopes and in the belief that we will succeed in developing the closest and best possible relations with our truly friendly and brotherly country Uzbekistan."

"We in Serbia admire the results achieved under your leadership, dear Shavkat. Uzbekistan has reached unimagined heights. We admire your results, we want to work and cooperate with your beautiful country. I always learn a lot from you, dear friend, and as you can see, I have no problem saying that publicly, and I believe that we can improve our cooperation in all areas of social life," said Vucic.

"I hope that we will further develop those relations. We have defined several areas of importance, and I am happy about that. These are, to sign the free trade agreement as soon as possible, to make a decision as soon as possible to establish direct Belgrade-Tashkent flights, to develop industrial cooperation with a focus on the textile sector... Cooperation in the field of agriculture, advanced technologies, digital transformation, artificial intelligence and cooperation in the field of transport, logistics and the defense industry. These are all areas of great importance for us, but I believe we can achieve incomparably better results in all other areas and I am happy that our ministers are very satisfied with the results of the talks they had with their Uzbek counterparts. I am very happy that you are our guest," said the president of Serbia.

"Dear Shavkat, respected President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, I hope you feel at home here in Serbia. And I will never forget the hospitality you showed us in Tashkent and Samarkand; it is simply difficult to reciprocate, but we Serbs also try to be hospitable, so if we cannot compare to you, then let us at least be a little better than others in Europe. Thank you once again, welcome, and come to us more often," concluded Vucic.
