Bosnia and Herzegovina could receive candidate status for EU by the end of 2017

Commissioner of European Union for neighborhood policy and expansion Johannes Hahn stated today in Sarajevo that Bosnia and Herzegovina could receive a candidate status for joining the EU by the end of 2017, thereby inviting the government to keep fulfilling the remaining requirements.

As announced from the President office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, commissioner of the European Union for neighborhood policy and expansion Johannes Hahn stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina made significant step forward and should continue to fulfill its duties.

He repeated that solving the questions about adapting the Agreement of stabilization and joining (S SP), harmonization of systems of coordination mechanism of European Affairs and advance in implementation of reforms, "there is a "real" possibility that Bosnia and Herzegovina could receive candidate status by the end of 2017", reports Hina.

Senior European official expressed his expectation that the Bosnia and Herzegovina should resolve all those questions so when he returns to Brussels on the meeting of the Council on Foreign Relations he can file  a positive report for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Chairman of presidency Bakir Izetbegovic informed Hahn about achieved agreement of adapting S SP and its market part.

He also expressed hope that there will soon come to a conclusion about the establishment of the efficient coordination system, that will help Bosnia and Herzegovina in further integration towards EU.

Izetbegovic informed commissioner Hahn that there are preparations in motion for the census.

He showed expectation that the states members of the EU will take in consideration the Bosnia and Herzegovina's request of joining the EU on the next meeting of Ministers for foreign affairs in July 2016.

Hahn will participate in Banja Luka tomorrow in the meeting of Ministers for foreign affairs of Central European initiative, who will discuss possible outcomes with migrant crisis as well respecting human rights and fight against terrorism. 

He will talk about strengthening of regional cooperation in Sustainable Development through achieving better business connection as well about the action plan CEI 2017-2020 which should be accepted by the end of the year.
