Veselin Jevrosimovic in his column for this week's "Informer" wrote about how the development of technology and how the Internet influenced musicians. The British BPI organization decided that in the overall album sales of world musicians, they account for those that were purchased over the Internet in a digital format.

Veselin Jevrosimović: Computers will soon recognize us!

Here's what this is really about.

"You have certainly heard so far that a musical album went "gold" or "platinum" because musicians and record labels in promotion of their achievements gladly stand this epithet. Originally, it is a recognition by the British organization BPI that has for years awarded albums based on the number of copies sold. These days, they've informed the public that from now on they will count "copies" which users download from the Internet through a growing number of streaming services. Therefore,  it is Madonna's debut album dating back to 1983, considered "silver" that has now received a platinum award, which only further talks about the popularity, and I would say power, of placing content on the Web.

I think it was high time that the online distribution of content - not just music - finally gets the recognition and equalizes itself with classic releases. Namely,  we see that already for several years now, primarily due to the development of broadband and new high-speed mobile networks, the publishing origins have changed. Writers who publish books exclusively on the Internet gain worldwide fame, amateur video contents have become more popular than documentary shows produced by major TV stations and a number of music bands and solo performers leave the issue of CDs and publish their work exclusively through streaming services.

Veselin Jevrosimović: More and more ordinary things will be connected to the internet!

On the other hand, more and more people listen to music via the Internet, usually using smart mobile devices, whether it's on Internet radio stations, dedicated services. The business model has also changed, but instead of selling albums or individual songs, now you can pay a monthly fee and thus completely legally gain access to the entire music library in which the number of tracks is tens of thousands. Therefore, it is only fair to customize this assessment to the success of the new digital era. "
