LETTUCE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN STEAK: Traders earn up to 400 percent with each sale!

The imported price for a kilo of butter lettuce is 96 dinars, while retail price for that amount means you can buy only one head. The situation is similar for tomatoes and radishes

A kilo of lettuce in the Serbian markets will cost 390 dinars, although the average import price is about 0.8 euros, roughly 96 dinars, and this is just one example of how the prices of fresh vegetables on Serbian markets in high season erase all logic reason, indicate analysts.

Economist Dragan Milicevic warns that the situation is the same  with tomatoes and radishes, and the fact that  butter lettuce is even more expensive than pork speaks to the profound disturbance  of the Serbian market for agricultural products.

Why are we still paying 99.99 when para does not exist?!

-A head of lettuce in some markets is sold at a price of 70 dinars, and several large distribution chains sell it at the psychological price of 69, 9 dinars. The weight  of a head of  lettuce is on average from 160 to 180 grams, which means that a kilogram costs around 390 dinars. A kilogram of processed pork costs from 349 to 380 dinars.

- In Serbia, the situation is not any better with radishes, whose price per kilogram is about 400 dinars - says Milicevic, adding that although the largest share of the market is covered by domestic production, imported salads in the past 12 months were worth an average of 25,000 euros.
