Criminal charges have been filed against two people in Montenegro on suspicion that they arranged a marriage between two minors.

The police filed a criminal complaint with the State Prosecutor in the Podgorica Higher State Prosecutor's Office against K.M. (31) and B.M. (38), both from Kosovo, now residents of Podgorica, on suspicion that they committed the crime of human trafficking.

"It is suspected that they arranged illicit marriage between the daughter of K.M., a 12-year-old girl, and a 12-year-old boy from the Podgorica family, by abusing trust in order to gain money," the police said in a statement.

In order to conclude the illicit marriage between children, members of the boy's family arrived in Podgorica on February 4 and 5.

"A celebration was organized in B M.'s apartment, during which the girl received gifts while money was handed over to K.M.," the statement added.
