Sometimes in the last days of spring, sometimes in the first days of summer, the towns on the banks of the Tisa River become a real tourist attraction in Serbia.

A unique natural phenomenon takes place - the so-called blooming of the Tisa, when a large number of a rare insect species comes out of the river mud and perform a "love dance" just above its surface as they mate.

These mayflies - called "Tisa flowers" - live only one day, and the females lay about 8,000 eggs before they end their life.

This natural phenomenon still exists only on the Yangtze River in China, while in Serbia, say those who had the opportunity to see this unusual spectacle, it is most beautiful near a gravel pit at the exit from Kanjiza.

Hence, in June, this town becomes the number one place for tourists from all over Serbia. The phenomenon of the blooming of the Tisa is also the reason that in the days that follow, tourists visit both the town and a spa.

The healing spa water was discovered at the beginning of the last century, while its source was called "the magic well" by the locals, which put Kanjiza on the map of important natural health resorts in Serbia.
